‘Kaleshwaram water to reach Karimnagar by Aug 15’...

Karimnagar: Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar on Sunday said the water from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme would reach Karimnagar city by August 15..

The first drop of water would touch the district at Nagulamalyala and reach Karimnagar city after passing through six villages. To welcome the Godavari waters into the district, ‘Jala Jatara’ (water carnival) would be organized in a big way, the MLA said at a press meet held here.

Dubbing Kaleshwaram project as the lifeline for Karimangar district, Kamalakar said it was a big gift presented to the people of the State by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Water level in Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) had dropped to dead storage due to lack of rains and the construction of 11 irrigation projects in the upper reaches of the project in Maharastra, he said, adding, subsequently, Lower Manair Dam (LMD) and Mid Manair were not receiving inflows yet. If the situation continued to further, the city people will have to face severe difficulties for drinking water as in the last few years witnessed a drought like situation. However, Kaleshwaram project would put an end to all these problems, he added.

Kaleshwaram water has already reached to Yellampalli through Kannepalli, Annaram and Sundilla through lifting. In the next stage, water would be shifted to Mid Manair and LMD.

Responding to TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar’s challenge for a debate on Kaleshwaram project, he welcomed the challenge by saying the SRSP project, which was taken up by the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh, was not completed even after 60 years. Congress leaders have no right to question TRS government which completed the world’s largest lift irrigation project in a record time of 3 years, he underscored.

The MLA denied the allegations of the BJP which said that both the TRS and the MIM parties were conspiring to capture Karimnagar Municipal Corporation with the ruling TRS promised to give the Mayor post to the MIM,

Emphasising that results of ZPTC and MPTC elections would be repeated in municipal polls, he exuded his confidence that his party was going to emerge as a single largest party in the State by winning 40 as against 60 corporators in KMC polls. The BJP leaders were trying to gain benefit by provoking the people in a wrong way.

When asked about the damaged roads in the town, Kamalakar said there was no question of compromising on the quality of works. Action would be taken against the officials as well as contractors if any irregularities were found in executing the works. he warned..
