Hyderabad: Protests are continuing at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) against the ‘violent action’ of the Delhi police on students of Jamia Millia University in New Delhi on Sunday night..
The protests started on Sunday evening on the MANUU campus in Gachibowli with a few hundred students, including girls, staging a sit-in at the main gate of the university. It continued all through the night. The students raised slogans against the Delhi police and the BJP-led Central government. They condemned what they termed a ‘barbaric act’ of the Delhi police resulting in injuries to over 100 students and damage to property. On Monday, the students boycotted the semester examination of the university. A rally is planned during the day by the students in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) even as a group of students are continuing the demonstration at the main gate of the campus. Policemen were deployed in huge numbers near the campus to prevent the students from coming out on the roads. However, the student’s union leaders said they had no plans to move out to the roads without obtaining permission from the police. At Osmania University, the students will be holding a protest demonstration at 4 pm on the Arts College campus against the alleged brutality of the police on students of Jamia Millia University..

Hyderabad: Legal and biodiversity experts on Saturday said it was up to the Forest Department, its officials and staff to ensure forest crimes are processed without delay and action should be taken quickly. At the second day of the State-level meeting of department officials at the Telangana State Forest Academy at Dulapally, the experts also stressed on how law can be implemented with respect to protecting the State’s biodiversity resources. The department officials were told that as per the changes brought about in the Biological Diversity Act of 2002, any extraction of products or produce from the State’s forests must be allowed only with requisite permissions. The law provides for department officials to file cases against anyone collecting materials from forests and taking them out without permissions, Director Fisheries and former Telangana State Biodiversity Board member Dr C Suvarna and Board’s Project Coordinator told the meeting..

Hyderabad: The State Election Commission (SEC) is likely to issue the notification for Mandal and Zilla Parishad elections between Thursday (April 18) and Saturday (April 20), State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy said on Monday. He said all preparations were nearly in place for the elections and a preparatory meeting would be held on April 18 with all District Collectors and Superintendents of Police. The SEC was also in consultation with Maharashtra and Karnataka for deployment of additional security forces to ensure the peaceful conduct of the local body elections..

Warangal Urban: Mera Bharath Mahan, a Telugu film, produced by the three doctors of Warangal is all set to hit the screens on Friday. The movie was produced by Dr Yerra Sridhar Raju, Dr Talla Ravi and Dr Pallavi Reddy. Speaking to the media persons here at the press club on Thursday, Dr Talla Ravi said that the movie was based on the social issues concerneing the society. “With a social responsibility, we produced the movie. We are giving a message to youth who are the change makers of the society. The film discusses about the suicides of the farmers as well as the students.
