Mancherial: Did the delay on the part of police to respond to an SoS by P Anuradha cost her life? Police drew flak for failing to protect Anuradha, who was killed by her parents for marrying her boyfriend from another community. Even her husband, Laxman, had made a call to ‘100’ on the fateful night. The police were under severe criticism for being inactive in the sensational Kalamadugu honour killing..
According to locals, the police could not trace Anuradha when Laxman lodged a missing complaint after she was forcibly taken away by her parents from the house of her in-laws on Saturday night. They failed to reach the spot when he reported the assault by calling up Dial 100 service. They reportedly were late in responding to the call. “Had cops traced Anuradha and her parents soon after receiving the missing complaint, she would have been rescued. Policemen took nearly an hour to reach the spot even after Laxman sought intervention by cops by dialling at ‘Dial 100’ service. These two factors spelt doom for the 22-year-old girl,” a close relative of Laxman said on condition of anonymity. The cops also failed to take precautionary measures after Anuradha alerted them about the threat from her parents by sending a video message through WhatsApp. In the video, she pleaded the cops to protect the couple in the wake of her family members’ disapproval for marrying Laxman. “If we face any problems after getting married or on the way, my parents and Sarpanch will be held responsible,” she informed. Anuradha, a native of Kalamadugu village, was on Saturday night brutally beaten to death by her father and brother for marrying Laxman at Arya Samaj in Hyderabad on December 3. After the marriage, Anuradha and Laxman, a private school teacher and a resident of Kalamadugu, returned to their native place on Saturday morning. They fell in love four years ago..
